Why Would I Need a Virtual Librarian?

Well, sure, you could always Google it. But do you always find the answers you need? And are they always presented in the right format? Why waste your time on frustrating searches? You outsource other office tasks so you can concentrate on what you do best. Why not hire a professional to do your research, since that's what I do best?

I have been employed in libraries since 1992 and earned my Master's in Library and Information Science from the University of Denver in 2001. I have enjoyed working with a wide variety of library patrons researching just about every topic under the sun, but I wanted to be able to devote more time to each patron and offer custom information searching and presentation, so I started Your Virtual Librarian.

I have also, in my library career, researched and written grant proposals, served on the curriculum committee of two different private schools seeking accreditation, written informational content for library websites, served as a staff book reviewer for The Shy Librarian magazine, and am currently serving on the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) Booklist Task Force.

As a home-based freelancer, I have provided reseach for a number of professionals, web sites, and publications, worked as a fact checker on several books and an encyclopedia, indexed several publications (including the United Seniors Health Cooperative's "Long-Term-Care Insurance, a Professional's Guide"), written web content for a number of sites, contributed to a regional magazine and several nonfiction books and worked as a copy editor.

I have access to a large number of subscription databases and can find information not available on the world wide web.

I pride myself on my "net detective" skills, and I never give up the hunt!
